3D Design Project: Flat Pack Design

Image
Over the course of this project, I managed to come up with a lot of different designs that had the function of becoming flat pack, whilst also having the right design for self-assembly. I started my research from gathering research from online resources such as Pinterest. I put together a mood board and then began to imitate certain designs that I thought were quite interesting. I began sketching designs in order to gain some understanding of how they could be put together. I then used various materials to create a small-scale design. Card and cardboard was quite a good material for my designs as they are both lightweight but sturdy enough to hold their shape and provide function. Although I was quite skeptical about this project at first, it was a good exercise for me to think outside of 2D art and look at functional designs that could also be appealing to the eye. I had never designed furniture based products before so now I feel like I can look at flat-pack self-assembly based fur...

Textiles Project: Fabric Screen Printing & Embroidery

Image
I found this project really enjoyable. The title we were given was 'Everyday Pattern', so I decided to look into the patterns that we see everyday in nature. I did this through my own primary research by studying different leaves in particular and recording this through taking photographs and making sketches. I took inspiration from two artists: Hannah Rampley and Dorothy Tucker. Hannah Rampley creates designs of layering different plant imagery using screenprinting and stencils. Dorothy Tucker had a really interesting way of using embroidery to manipulate an image. I took inspiration from both artists that is evident in my own work, however I have combined both approaches to create an interesting final image. Despite thoroughly enjoying this project and becoming quite motivated with new ideas, I don't think I will specialise in Textiles. However I would really like to bring in certain aspects of it into my chosen specialty. I would really like to experiment more in prin...

Illustration Project: Wild

Image
The first rotation of the course was Illustration which was quite exciting! The project title was 'Wild'. I responded to this using a variety of ideas, but the one I liked most was the 'wild woman'. Whilst exploring my ideas throughout the three days, we had tutorials on relevant skills and techniques. For example we were given a basic introduction to PhotoShop which was good to refresh my memory and remind myself of features that may possibly help with future work. We were also taught how to screenprint, which is something I hadn't every tried before. We printed onto paper through a screen that had already been exposed with a pattern. The effect was really interesting and so I decided to use one of the prints as a base and background for my final piece/idea.  It was also really interesting to see the work that others had produced and the different ways that they had responded to the project title. I really enjoyed the project once I knew what I was doing, howeve...
